Frequently asked questions

Direct answers to common questions about TenantCheck.

Where is TenantCheck based?

Our team is based in Wellington, New Zealand. A service by Kiwis for Kiwis.

How long does a check take?

Most reports arrive in your email inbox within 5 minutes after you order the check.

What is the difference between a Quick Check and a Full Check?

The Quick Check ($15) covers the NZ Courts, Tenancy Tribunal, and public sources - a strong starting point for any landlord.

The Full Check ($89) leaves no stone unturned. It checks every credit agency in New Zealand, provides a credit score, debt information, and access to the Experian tenancy database with landlord reviews. It also meets insurance obligations for thorough background and credit checks.

Will it be OK if I only do a Quick Check?

The Quick Check is a solid starting point, but we recommend the Full Check before handing over the keys. The Full Check provides credit ratings, credit scores, and bill payment history that the Quick Check cannot.

What does a tenant check include?

For an example of what you will see, review our sample report. Reports vary by check type - Quick or Full.

Where can I get help?

Email support@tenantcheck.co.nz or use the live chat on our website. We respond to all enquiries promptly.

What is TenantCheck Apply?

TenantCheck Apply lets you generate a property application link so tenants can complete their application and provide consent online. You can then order a Quick or Full Check without re-keying their details.

How do I use TenantCheck Apply?

Create your TenantCheck account, generate an application link for your property, and share it with your prospective tenant. Once they apply and consent, select your check type and pay securely online.

Do I need tenant consent before ordering a check?

Yes. You must have written authorization from each prospective tenant and guarantor before ordering a check. See our Terms of Service page for details.
