Jaskiran Kaur was advised of the purpose of the call, that the landlord was present, and that the hearing was commencing. Mandeep Singh was called twice but did not answer. During the Tribunal’s second attempt at calling Mandeep Singh, Jaskiran Kaur disconnected the call and did not respond to two further call attempts.
The hearing proceeded in the tenants’ absence because: a. The landlord confirmed that the contact details used for service were current and had recently been used to communicate with the tenants; b. The landlord confirmed that a colleague had spoken with the tenants the evening prior regarding the rent arrears and water charges, indicating the tenants were aware of the hearing; and c. After disconnection, and at the time of releasing this order, there was no further contact from the tenants to the Tribunal to explain their unavailability or to request an adjournment.
