[The tenant/s] owes [The landlord/s] $783.53 (“the debt”).

[The tenant/s] must pay rent and the debt as follows: a. By 26 weekly payments of $700.00, being $670.00 for rent and $30.00 for the debt. b. A final payment of $673.53, being $670.00 for rent and $3.53 for the debt. c. Payments will be every Tuesday, with the first payment on 09/06/2026 and continuing until 08/12/2026.

Payments will be allocated in the following order: rent, water charges, rent in advance, and the filing fee.

If the tenant fails to make any payment within 2 working days of the due date, the balance of the debt owing will be payable immediately and can be enforced through the District Court.

Reasons

Both parties attended the hearing.

The landlord filed an application seeking recovery of water charges and rent arrears.

At the hearing, the landlord confirmed that water charges of $181.24 remained outstanding.

The landlord also advised that, although the tenant was not technically in rent arrears as at the date of the hearing due to the timing of recent rent payments, the tenant was not maintaining the rent account one week in advance as required by the tenancy agreement. The landlord calculated that an additional payment of $574.29 was required to restore the rent account to the agreed position. The tenant did not dispute this amount.

Following discussion at the hearing, the parties reached agreement regarding repayment of the outstanding sums. The tenant agreed to make payments of $30.00 per week commencing on Tuesday 9 June 2026 and continuing every Tuesday thereafter until the debt is paid in full.

The parties also agreed that payments would be applied first to the outstanding water charges, then to restoring the rent account to one week in advance, and finally to reimbursement of the filing fee.

The Tribunal is satisfied that the agreement reached between the parties is appropriate and should be recorded as an order of the Tribunal. The orders above therefore reflect the terms agreed at the hearing.

There was also discussion at the hearing regarding whether Work and Income may be able to assist the tenant with a lump-sum payment towards the outstanding balance. While that is a matter for the tenant and Work and Income, any such payment may be made at any time and will reduce the balance owing under this order.

As the landlord has been wholly successful in obtaining the relief sought, the tenant must reimburse the landlord for the filing fee pursuant to the Residential Tenancies Act 1986.

This matter has been resolved by agreement between the parties. In the circumstances, I am satisfied that publication of the parties’ names or identifying particulars is unnecessary. The proceeding concerns routine debt recovery issues that have been resolved by consent, and there is no public interest in publication. I therefore make an order suppressing the names and identifying particulars of both parties.
