How much is owed for rent?

The landlord was a social housing provider, and the tenant paid income related rent. The tenancy commenced on 24 March 2023 and was periodic.
On 18 July 2025 the tenant’s rent was increased from $88.00 to $275.00 per week. On 25 July 2025 the tenant’s rent was then reduced to $250.00 per week.
The landlord told the Tribunal that the income related rent assessment indicated the tenant could afford to pay a higher rent and that was the reason for the rent increase. The landlord said that the tenant was frustrated with the rent increase and they tried working with him to help him retain the tenancy.
The tenant told the Tribunal that his financial position had not changed during the tenancy, and he could not afford to pay the increased rent because he was refurbishing his house bus. The tenant said as the rent was unaffordable, he gave notice terminating the tenancy.
